Doing Your Part in Brain Cancer Research

By Rob Sutter

While you may not be an authority on the issue, you can still do your part to help it. Brain cancer research is conducted periodically and the idea that a cure will be found is what perpetuates it. Organizations work hard so that this goal is met, but not everyone has the degree from a prestigious medical school. You don't necessarily need it, since there are other ways for you to get involved. The aforementioned organizations understand the need for participation, allowing you to help the cause.

As noble an effort as brain cancer research is, it's one of those things that cannot be conducted solely within a research facility. It has to go outside at points in order to reach out to people who aren't as educated but remain passionate nonetheless. VABC is one of the many organizations that raises awareness for brain cancer and funding for research through events. One such event is the "Join the Voices! Annual Run/Walk."

In the plainest of terms, the "Join the Voices! Annual Run/Walk" encompasses those who are passionate about putting an end to brain cancer. The event takes place in New York City. There are many teams that take part and people can join up with said teams easily. There's also a chance to start teams of one's own. While the physical aspect is important, others can easily make donations if they wish not to actively participate in the event itself.

Families, more likely than not, may find the most enjoyable time out of the "Run for Rob" 2nd Annual 5K Run. The event will occur within Farmingdale, NY and is named after a doctor who sadly passed away due to brain cancer, Dr. Robert Bernstein. Families will be able to help raise money while at the same time compete in various activities. Raffles will be held and prizes will be distributed to the winners as well. Without question, this is the time for families to come together and raise awareness for brain cancer.

At its core, brain cancer research is conducted by those who are educated about its inner-workings. With this movement comes the need for money, though, and it has to come from the public events that organizations hold. For the most part, they are two-fold. People come together as a unit so that money is raised. On the other hand, it's a movement to raise awareness and money in the name of brain cancer, so the hope to find a remedy comes first and foremost.
